New Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca is planning a major overhaul of his new squad this summer.

The Italian coach has arrived back in Manchester after the club eventually agreed a compensation package with former side Chelsea as part of their attempts to tie up a Pep Guardiola succession plan as quickly as possible.

Maresca served as Guardiola's assistant for one season during his 10 trophy-filled years at the Etihad Stadium before taking the top job at Leicester City and then latterly Chelsea.

The move is viewed as a risk by some fans, with Maresca sacked by Chelsea at the start of 2026, and he's ready to trim down the size of Guardiola's bloated panel.

Experienced duo Bernardo Silva and John Stones have both already left as free agents following the expiry of their respective contracts with Elliot Anderson joining in a club record £115M deal as part of Maresca's arrival.

As part of his first few weeks back in Manchester, Maresca is expected to speak with several players not on duty at the 2026 FIFA World Cup to discuss their futures, with Nico Gonzalez, Savinho and Rico Lewis all reportedly on his exit list as per Mail Sport.

Lewis slipped down Guardiola's pecking order last season, with Matheus Nunes and Nico O'Reilly his preferred full-back pair, Gonzalez could return to his native Spain and Tottenham are rumoured to be considering a renewed offer for Savinho.

Alongside those two, City are open to offers on veteran defender Nathan Ake, as he moves into the final year of his contract and also potentially Ruben Dias.

Dias is the most high-profile name on Maresca's five-player list with previous reports claiming the club could offer him the captaincy in a bid to keep the 29-year-old away from Real Madrid.

Jose Mourinho is keen to reunite him with Silva in the Spanish capital, and City may be tempted to cash in, if their minimum demand of £50M is met as part of Maresca's reshuffle ahead of the 2026/27 season.
