Ex-Premier League striker Troy Deeney delivered a harsh assessment of the 1-1 World Cup draw between South Africa and Czechia, describing the match as “terrible” and likening the standard of play to “kids’ football.”

The former Watford captain was speaking on CBS Sports Golazo after the Group A encounter, saying the game was a poor advertisement for the tournament due to the lack of quality on display from both sides.

While both teams shared the points in a tense contest, Deeney’s post-match analysis focused on the disappointing level of performance rather than the result.

"Terrible result for both," Deeney stated.

"I think even worse for Czechia, but for where they were at so many times, they could have been better in the final third."

"But I don't think I've watched a game of football, a professional game of football, with more long shots in one game.

"Honestly, it was like watching kids' football.

"Do you know when you've got that kid who can kick it the furthest, and they're like, 'shoot from everywhere?'

"That's what the game was. Well done, South Africa, for getting that penalty, but it was a terrible game of football."
