De Ligt is eager to build on those final weeks.
He told United Review: "I’ve been to a lot of places!
“So, sometimes I don’t feel that way (young) but there’s a lot more to come. Hopefully we can build something together at United to show the world what we’re capable of.
“Personally, I’d love to carry on from how I was in March, April – I feel that is the level I could show and should show on a consistent basis. That’s my personal goal, and also to stay fit, that is really important. And then the goal with the team is to really show everybody what it is to play for United, and to get a positive vibe again around the team and the club.
“We want to show the fans what United is and that we want to win every game. It’s a nice feeling to start over again, because it gives you a clean slate, and hopefully from the start we can really get these positive vibes back.”
