The 18-year-old, who is the son of former Leeds United and Queens Park Rangers midfielder Shaun Derry made his first start for Chelsea against Nottingham Forest on Monday afternoon.
However, after a promising start, he suffered a heavy clash of heads with Zach Abbott just before half-time brought play to a halt.
He will now be sidelined for the next game against Liverpool as he serves protocol as Chelsea deal with the absences of Estevao, Jamie Gittens and Mykhailo Mudryk on the wing.
Speaking for the first time after the horrific incident, Derry sent a message to fans and the medical staff who treated him on and off the pitch.
"A dream come true to start at Stamford Bridge for my Premier League debut," he wrote.
"I’d like to thank all the Chelsea medical staff, everyone at St Mary’s Hospital, my teammates, and all the fans for their great support. I can’t wait to be back playing in front of everyone very soon."
Derry was replaced by Liam Delap as a concussion substitute and the former Ipswich striker is likely to feature once more against Liverpool this weekend as the Blues try to climb out of 9th place in the Premier League table.
