Brentford defender Sepp van den Berg has no regrets over his grounding with Liverpool.

The Dutchman left Liverpool in the summer of 2024 to join the Bees, where he has flourished.

Recalling his initial move to Liverpool from Feyenoord, Van den Berg told the Guardian: "Those were tough days. I was 17, alone in a new country, and I had no one to talk to. In the end, I didn't even want to go to training."

On his final days with Liverpool and manager Arne Slot, Van den Berg continued: "It was a bit strange. He asked if I was ready for pre-season. I said 'yes', but in my head I was thinking: 'I hope I don’t have to come back'."

Last season he started 29 league matches and under new manager Keith Andrews he has not missed a minute.

"Everything feels right here. Everyone says hello, you see the sports directors every day and even the owner comes into the locker room after the games. There is a warmth and openness that I love," he says.

"I live alone, my girlfriend is studying in Amsterdam and my family is at home in Zwolle. So it's nice to have someone to talk to. It helps a lot.

He added, "I learned a lot (at Liverpool). It was a tough time, but it made me stronger. I know who I am now."
