Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva is close to being handed a ban ahead of the club's clash with Arsenal.

Silva was considered fortunate by some not to earn a ban for his performance against Newcastle after a harsh challenge on Dan Burn while already on a yellow at the weekend.

The Portuguese international avoided the red and City went on to win the game 2-1 to keep their Premier League title hopes alive as they chase down Arsenal who sit 5 points clear at the top.

However, despite Silva escaping a second yellow, if he picks up two more yellow cards over the next five league games he will be given a two match ban.

This is due to how Premier League rules state that any player who reaches 10 yellow cards before their team plays 32 matches receives an automatic two-game suspension.

City face Leeds United, Nottingham Forest, West Ham, Chelsea, and Arsenal over the next 5 games and if Silva isn’t careful he could miss the clash against The Gunners.

However, if Silva was to be yellow-carded against Leeds and Forest, and then serve a two-game suspension against West Ham and Chelsea, he would return with a clean slate against Arsenal.

Despite his disciplinary record, Atletico Madrid and Juventus are said to be interested in Silva as he plans a move away this summer after several years under manager Pep Guardiola who could also depart.
