Tielemans has completed a bold move to Manchester United - after they activated his £35M release clause - and Villa will also be without Amadou Onana until 2027, following an ACL injury at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
That has disrupted Unai Emery's transfer plans, and he is also on the verge of completing the signing of Switzerland international Johan Manzambi, for a club record fee of £50M+ from SC Freiburg.
A midfield double act of Gomes and Manzambi would add freshness for the campaign ahead, with the former boasting three and a half top-flight seasons of experience at neighbours Wolves, prior to their Premier League relegation in May.
Atletico Madrid had also flagged up an interest in the Brazil international, but they failed to make a formal offer, and Villa have now swooped in.
Gomes has been given permission to leave Wolves' training camp in Portugal to finalise the move and he should be signed in time to join Villa's preseason tour of Asia at the start of August.
