The centre-forward made a personal request to take the No14, despite a belief he would seek the No9.
Arsenal celebrated his arrival by offering for free the printing of the No14 on shirts, which normally would cost £16. And fans have taken up the gesture in record numbers.
The Daily Mail says numbers from the last 24 hours have beaten all sales from new signings in recent years. Arsenal are expecting even bigger sales over the course of today, with the free offer to end tomorrow night.
