Ampadu has proved himself Premier League class when leading Daniel Farke's team this season.
And sporting the former number of the likes of Billy Bremner, Peter Lorimer and David Batty, Ampadu knows the significance of being handed the No4: “You have to embrace the history of it.
"I can’t be in those conversations at all. Leeds fans are really good at making you aware of how big the club is and how important certain players and numbers are.
"You want to make it your own as well, but you do have to respect everyone who has played and worn it before you. You know you have to put a lot of hard work in. I still have a long way to go, but I want to do just as well as those before me.”
On the Leeds captaincy, Ampadu added: "I don’t try to think too much about how I communicate - I think it’s best to be genuine and say whatever comes to mind. Sometimes you still mess up. I’m not someone who enjoys speaking in front of a group, so that’s something I’ve had to learn.
"Just truly saying what you feel and being honest - I think that’s the best way. It’s something I’m always trying to work on; it’s a work in progress.
“When I first came here, Liam Cooper was amazing, so naturally I saw it first-hand. But we also have a good group where everyone keeps the standards high. Maybe as captain you have a bit more of a voice, and if I don’t have high standards, then others might find it easy not to either."
