Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has spoken to the media ahead of this weekend's clash with Brighton.

Seeking to win three Premier League matches in a row, United welcome Brighton to Old Trafford after winning back-to-back Premier League games for the first time under Amorim. United have won each of their last three Premier League home games and will aim to pick up another three points against The Seagulls.

Maguire to be given a new contract?

Amorim was first asked about Harry Maguire and the possibility of handing him a new deal, which has circulated in the media this week.

“We are really happy with Harry. Not the time to talk about his contract. He is really important for us.

“It was good for him to play with three centre backs, so sometimes you help players with the way you play. I am really pleased. He is not young but he can learn a lot. He needs to be better with the ball. He is a massive player for us and he needs to continue.”

Team News

Next, the Portuguese head coach gave some team news and confirmed a few players will miss this weekend’s clash.

"The squad is fine, we have some doubts. We had some issues during the week with Harry Maguire and Mason Mount.

"Nothing serious but some knocks. We will see tomorrow.”

On Lisandro Martinez: “He trained really well, not with us but on the next pitch. He is training well and feels well. He is near to training with the team. He is closer to a return.”

Fernandes wants to be a leader

Captain Bruno Fernandes is set to start his 300th game for the club this weekend and as pressure grows on him as a leader, Amorim has backed his control of the side.

"He is a little bit different to what I was expecting after what you hear and read.

"He wants to help a lot the team-mates, sometimes it's not in the best way but it comes from a good place.

"He wants the responsibility all the time and you can see he takes it personally when we don't win games.

"Let's see if he is going to reach that mark tomorrow."

Amorim admits people have doubted him

Next, Amorim opened up on narratives being changed by fine margins and how he is focused on results after many called for him to be sacked but United picked up form.

"I don't want to change so much with the difference of 20 centre metres.

"If (Cody) Gakpo's shot was 20cm different, then the narrative would be different.

"As a manager, if you don't win a lot of games then people are going to doubt you. We need to be clear on our path."

Amorim says Brighton will be a tough test

Brighton have won each of their last three Premier League away encounters with United and will fancy their chances this weekend in what is a worry for Amorim.

"It is going to be a very difficult game. Brighton are really fun to watch they are really good on build-up, they are really strong on transistions in every aspect of the game. They are doing well at set pieces this season so they are a team who are really complete.

"We need to be really smart and to face that game with a real focus on everything that we do because they are a very strong team. You can see with how they play the game. They are really intense, the quality is there.

"They believe a lot on what they are doing even under pressure so I am a huge fan of him (Hurzeler).
