The 58-year-old succeeds former Sporting Director Ifeanyi Ekwueme, who stepped down last Sunday.
Okechukwu previously served as Enyimba’s Vice Chairman, working under board president and former Nigeria captain Nwankwo Kanu.
In a Saturday statement, the club hailed Okechukwu as a legendary figure with extensive football experience, welcoming him to his latest role in guiding the team’s sporting direction.
“Enyimba Football Club is pleased to officially announce the appointment of former Super Eagles defender and club legend, Uche Okechukwu MON, fondly known as the ‘Gentle Giant’, as the new Sporting Director of the club,” the nine-time Nigeria champions stated.
