Veteran striker Oliver Giroud has signed a new one-year contract with Lille.

The 39-year-old joined the French side after his underwhelming spell at LAFC last summer, scoring 11 goals and providing one assist in his 44 games.

Lille have now confirmed that France’s record goal scorer has signed a new one-year deal, meaning he will be playing into his 40s.

Speaking to the club’s in-house media team, Giroud said: “I'm very happy to continue this adventure here. A year ago, when I arrived at LOSC, it wasn't exactly planned, so to speak.

“And it turns out I'm very happy here; I feel right at home. I was thrilled to return to France and Ligue 1 after leaving 13 years earlier.

“I was closer to my family and discovering the warmth of the people in this region I didn't know.

“The welcome I received in the North, as well as the values of the people, which I share, really appealed to me. After just a few weeks, it felt like I was part of the family. The integration happened naturally. It's pure joy.”
