Roberto Martinez believes Bernardo Silva would be an ideal fit for Barcelona as the Manchester City midfielder edges closer to the end of his contract this month.

The Portugal head coach insists that the 31-year-old has the attributes to succeed at the highest level of European football.

Speaking after Portugal’s 2-1 friendly win over Chile on Saturday, Martinez was asked about the long-standing transfer links between Silva and a move to LaLiga.

"I think Bernardo Silva is such a spectacular player that he fits into every dressing room in world football. I don't think a player like that appears out of nowhere, but he's a player who can adapt to any system and any style, and improve what's around him."

Silva, who has frequently been linked with a departure from City, continues to attract interest as his contract situation develops, while Portugal now prepare to face Nigeria in their final warm-up match before the World Cup in the United States.
