The Pole had hung up the gloves after leaving Juventus last summer, but was coaxed back into the game by Barca as they sought cover for senior goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen after he suffered a serious knee injury.
Such was 35 year-old Szczesny's impact last season that he was offered and signed a new deal in preseason.
And his mother, Alicja Szczesna, speaking with TVP Sport, revealed: "Wojciek is an adult, I never pressure him. He knows what he needs in life.
"These are his decisions, and I always respect all his choices. I know that if it weren't for Barcelona, Wojciek would have retired permanently. You can't say no to a club like that. Who wouldn't want to play for Barcelona? Wojciek wanted to be serious when he decided to end his career.
"That's how it went, but as you can see, he's happy, fulfilled, has more trophies under his belt, and we're counting on the Champions League this season."
