Militao suffered a hamstring injury during the match against Alavés and although reports suggested it was just a minor setback, he will now need surgery as medical reports proved it was worse than expected.
The Real Madrid defender will undergo surgery this week in Finland for an injury to the biceps femoris muscle in his left leg, meaning he will be out for around 5 months.
Fabrizio Romano also confirmed the news on Tuesday morning, revealing that Brazil will be without the 28-year-old for the tournament across North America.

This latest injury is Militao's third problem of the season after he was absent between December 8th of last year and March 31st of this year with another muscular injury.
He is now expected to be on the sidelines for the next five months, meaning he won’t return until at least September as he watches the World Cup from the sidelines.
His injury comes just one week after Chelsea’s Estevão suffered a Grade 4 hamstring injury, destroying his chances of making the World Cup side which leaves manager Carlo Ancelotti with a bare-bones squad.
