Barcelona announced the signing of England forward Gordon from Newcastle United on a five-year contract as the 25 year old made the biggest move of his career so far.
The Spanish side opted not to sign loanee Rashford this summer, a player they have a for €30M after he scored 14 goals and providing 14 assists over the past season.
Rashford’s £325,000-a-week wages are said to be a major hurdle that is halting the move that has now been disrupted by England teammate Gordon.
Speaking to Grosvenor Sport who offer the best World Cup betting odds, Mendiata revealed that Gordon's move only puts pressure on Rashford to make his move happen this summer.
“The signing has definitely changed the nature of the negotiations for Marcus Rashford. Barca has demonstrated that they have funds people didn't think they had.
“However, with another player in that position, I’m not sure if keeping Rashford remains a priority, they might be looking for a different profile.
“I know the club is happy with him and wants him to stay, but this puts pressure on the financial side. It becomes a matter of, ‘You want to stay? This is what we can afford.’
“You either accept that price or you don't. It’s interesting how quickly things have switched with just one signing and Rashford might be left disappointed.”
Gordon has netted 39 goals in 152 appearances for Newcastle and should prove formidable for Barcelona heading into the next season, possibly as Rashford watches on at Manchester United.
