Font says the Portuguese sporting director is too close to certain identities connected to the club to warrant a place in his team.

He explained, "My coach will be Hansi Flick, but Deco will not be my sporting director.
"We will ensure that the existing structure is a better fit for Hansi Flick, and that there isn't someone like Alejandro Echevarría, who doesn't hold an official position but exerts influence.
"Deco is a trusted associate of (Joan) Laporta and Alejandro Echevarría."
Echevarria has no official role with Barca, though acts as an advisor to president Joan Laporta both in terms of financial and sporting aspects of the club.
