Gonzalez, however, admits there's disappointment over the goalkeeper's decision to leave Espanyol for local rivals Barcelona.
In an interview with COPE's El Partidazo, Gonzalez says that he received a personal message from Garcia after the move, but that they have not spoken since.
"I understand everyone, but I wouldn't have gone to Barcelona. I don't share his decision but I respect him," said Gonzalez.
"He is the best, a world-class goalkeeper, and that doesn't change just because he changed teams."
García is expected to retain his place between the posts when Barcelona host Valencia this weekend in the first home match of the season.
"Everyone is free to do what they want in their lives. But he is his own product and very popular, which is why there has been so much attention. If it had been the other way around, that someone came from Barcelona to Espanyol, it would have been the same," says Gonzalez.
