The Austria centre-half scored in the 3-2 win and was outstanding on the night.
Sarabia said afterwards: “It’s a very important win. Also because of how it happened, after starting behind. We started well, with some good attacks. They’re very good on the counter-attack; they’re a great team. Even so, we kept doing what we wanted to do.
"We understood that the defensive aspect was going to be crucial. That play by David (Affengruber) tracking one of his strikers was decisive. David showed character and leadership; he was key. We weren’t very clear-cut, a bit sluggish, but we pinned them back in their area."
Thiago Almada saw red for Atletico on the half-hour mark, but Sarabia insisted: "They didn’t create many chances against us. Eleven against eleven, we were better. After that, without creating many chances, we were there.”
Expanding on Affengruber's performance, Sarabia added: “If he doesn’t go to the World Cup, it would be one of the greatest injustices in the history of football. He scored a goal, won a penalty, and provided an assist.
"A centre-back. In tight moments, he inspires the team. He’s having a spectacular season, but this week has been phenomenal. It’s a team victory, but David’s contribution has been crucial.”
