Calero was sacked on Sunday after four consecutive defeats.
However, Calero gave a farewell media conference this morning, where he reflected on how far the club had come under him.
He said, "I am absolutely convinced that I was going to save the team.
"They have to make decisions, they have a heart, and we share many things. I want to leave with a smile, just as I arrived. I hope I don't get emotional. Thank you to the people who gave me their trust."
Calero also said: “Last night I did some self-consoling reasoning: 'Damn, Julián, you're a coach, you took over a team in the Second Division with economic, social, and sporting problems, and you're leaving a team in the First Division three points from safety, after a bad run, of course, and with a renewed fanbase. With players whose value has increased, thanks to the work, in a specific direction, pointing in a specific direction. I've received really moving messages from my players; you feel like you've helped them'.
"Many tell me that without me this wouldn't have been possible. I know that's not true, but I know we're leaving a better situation than the one we found.”
