Afterwards, Bordalas declared: “The players, the team, we have to value this very important victory against Real Madrid, who are fighting for the top spot. The plan worked perfectly. This is what I want: a team with a winning mentality, that we come here and are able to put into practice what we've worked on during the week.
“Without a doubt, we all know that winning at the Bernabéu isn't something just anyone can do. We're talking about, if not the best, then one of the best in history. We knew we'd have to suffer. In the first half, on the counter-attacks, with more composure we could have created more problems for Madrid.
"But I'm incredibly proud; the plan worked perfectly. We knew they were going to create chances, but not nearly as many as Real Madrid is used to. We were organized, we worked phenomenally. Congratulations to them; this is the way forward. This is what the team needs to believe in. They can beat anyone, anywhere.”
The win leaves Getafe in 11th place on the LaLiga table, eight points clear of the dropzone.
Bordalas added: “Everyone knows the difficulties. Today we played four players who arrived in the winter transfer window, lads who hadn't played much for their clubs.
"It was perhaps the most difficult match, not that we didn't expect to win, but given everything that's happened, it was definitely the hardest. I'm very happy, very pleased for the lads.”
