After Barcelona's defeat at Girona last night, Real Madrid are outright LaLiga leaders after winning eight consecutive games under coach Alvaro Arbeloa.
Benito said on El Larguero: "The feeling of playing was different between the two teams, but the truth is that Real Madrid has been competing better than Barça and the morale boost will be important.
"I think that sometimes we are too demanding of Real Madrid, because there is surely room for improvement.
"I believe Real Madrid has historically been characterized by this. Even in bad times, they cling to competitions.
"Sometimes the level of the players makes you win even if the team as a whole isn't playing well, and that's something Real Madrid has practically always had; they haven't needed brilliant play many times to be champions."
