Barcelona president Joan Laporta has launched an attack on Real Madrid over their controversial win against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.

Real managed to win thanks to a penalty won ten minutes into injury-time.

In response, Laporta stated: "I have complete confidence in the League, the Federation, and the governing bodies.

“I understand that these things can happen; what we don't want is for them to always happen on one side . We want things to be corrected in some way, because there are situations that are very obvious.”

The Barça president insisted that his message was intended to be corrective, not confrontational.

Laporta then went into detail about the match between Real Madrid and Rayo Vallecano.

“Yesterday I made the joke about the 'diving,' sorry, but I watched the Real Madrid vs. Rayo game and I don't know where those ten minutes of added time came from,” he explained. "There are many plays where the players are getting used to diving. This should be a card.”

The Barcelona president drew comparisons to other leagues to bolster his argument.

“The other day I watched a Premier League match, and they were showing cards for stamping and diving,” he pointed out, before explicitly taking sides. “I saw that Rayo Vallecano came away from that match very unfairly disadvantaged. I say this as a fan.”

He also weighed in on the interpretation of penalties: “There are penalties I wouldn't call because I don't think they were penalties. He didn't kick the striker, who went to ground; it was an exaggeration.”

Laporta concluded by broadening the focus to the media context.

“I say this constructively. Sometimes it works in our favor,” he admitted, before pointing to an external factor. “They're favouring a club that has a television channel dedicated to explaining things that are out of line and saying that the referees are constantly harming them. This is the reaction.”

And he concluded with a rhetorical question and a final message: “Haven't they analysed any of this? They should look into it.”
