The club's shares are owned by the club's CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin, club chairman, Enrique Cerezo and investment fund Ares Management.
The three investors own about 70% of the club through Atletico Holco. The remainder is owned by shipping and energy group Quantum Pacific, according to the club's website.
The sale could be worth €2.5bn.
However, Atletico Madrid also needs a capital injection. Reuters reports that the club needs about DKK 448 million for squad improvements as well as develop a project around Metropolitano Stadium.
