Tunisia took drastic measures following their 5-1 defeat to Sweden as they sacked manager Lamouchi with two World Cup 2026 group games still to play.
Sweden inflicted a 5-1 loss on Tunisia in Sunday's Group F tie at the Estadio Monterrey in Guadalupe, Mexico which reportedly caused mayhem behind the scenes following the final whistle.
A statement on the Tunisian FA Instagram read: "An agreement has been officially reached to dismiss coach Sabri Lamouchi.
"Plans are under way to appoint Mondher Kebaier as the national team coach (on an interim basis)."
Tunisia play Japan in their second group game on Saturday before facing the Netherlands and have announced that the side have instead appointed Renard until the end of the World Cup instead of Kebaier.
The Tunisia statement read: “The agreement (to appoint Renard) also states to open negotiations after the end of participation in the World Cup, for long-term cooperation based on specific sporting goals.”
The 57-year-old has also managed Ivory Coast, Zambia and Angola at international level and he joins the side just two months after he was fired by Saudi Arabia.
It was his side which pulled off a shocking 2-1 win over Argentina and in their 2022 opener in Qatar and will hope to bring that magic to Tunisia.
Renard also managed the French women's national team at the last Women's World Cup in 2023 but the side were knocked out in the quarterfinal stage by Australia.
