The goal proved, which is the quickest in the tournament so far, proved to be the winner as Paraguay held on for a 1-0 victory, eliminating Türkiye from the World Cup.

In February, the IFAB (the International Football Association Board) confirmed a consultation would be held specifically over players covering their mouths.

This came after an altercation between Gianluca Prestianni and Vinicius Junior as Real Madrid and Benfica clashed in the Champions League.

Vini Jr claimed Prestianni racially abused him after he covered his mouth but the words could not be proven as his hands blocked what was said.

Now, any player who covers their mouth when speaking to their opponent is sent off. FIFA said in a statement:

"At the discretion of the competition organiser, any player covering their mouth in a confrontational situation with an opponent may be sanctioned with a red card."

The rule had been brought in to stop potentially racist comments from being hidden from view, even if what was said by Almiron may not have been offensive.
