According to The Times, Chelsea face missing out on the chance to defend their FIFA Club World Cup title once the tournament comes back around in 2029.

FIFA are understood to be considering whether the winners of the previous edition will qualify automatically for the next.
Football’s governing body will review this summer’s tournament before making a decision on whether to increase the number of allowed teams per country.
Liverpool, Barcelona, and Napoli all won their domestic leagues but didn’t feature, although UEFA will likely oppose any changes.
Chelsea were part of this summer’s tournament because they won the Champions League back in 2021, just within the allowed four years.
