Eddie Hower revealed Newcastle have been rocked by a sickness bug after both Jacob Ramsey and Nick Woltemade had been revealed to be suffering with illness.

The Magpies are preparing for their Champions League Round of 16 clash against Barcelona at the Spotify Camp Nou, an FA Cup clash with Manchester City and a Premier League fight with Manchester United on Wednesday afternoon.

Speaking on Tuesday morning, Eddie Howe revealed that a number of players have been infected by a sickness bug in what is a huge blow to the side.

“Jacob Ramsey trained fine yesterday. Nick (Woltemade) has come down ill. There’s obviously an illness in the squad. He hasn’t trained, but we will give him every chance for tomorrow.

“Tino Livramento is getting closer and closer, this game possibly comes too soon for him, we are desperate for him to become available.”

When asked if Woltemade would recover in time to play against United, he replied: “Let’s see, we’ll give him every chance.”

This adds to the fact that Bruno Guimaraes, Fabian Schar and Emil Krafth are all also out which will frustrate Howe who is already struggling to rotate his side.

Newcastle's chances of qualifying for Europe are disappearing as they slip further down the table. Add being knocked out the FA Cup and another loss to United and Chelsea over the next 10 days and this season looks bleak for the club.
