City host League One outfit Exeter City this weekend as they seek their first win of 2026. Guardiola’s side have drawn three successive Premier League matches against Sunderland, Chelsea and Brighton in what has been a disappointing dip in form.
Semenyo's best years are to come
Guardiola, who will be happy to see Arsenal points this week, switches his focus to the cup, where he says new signing Antoine Semenyo could feature this weekend.
"He is down to be selected. I don't know whether he will start or not, but he will be selected, for sure.
"A few years (City had been tracking Semenyo). A long time we followed and at the end, for the situation we have up front with the wingers, we have three specific players Oscar (Bobb), Savinho and Jeremy (Doku) so we need to reinforce for the next years and that's why the club made the gesture for to take him and at the perfect age - 25, 26 years old. So the best year's to come."
Could Semenyo score 25 goals a season?: "I don't know. He will have to adapt quick because the group is exceptional. The club is really good and he will adapt quick."
Guardiola happy to see Arsenal draw
Next, the City boss said he had "great respect" for Exeter ahead of the clash, before he questions quickly moved to the 0-0 draw between Arsenal and Liverpool. The result will please Guardiola, who could have seen the Gunners go 8 points clear on Thursday night.
"I didn't watch them.
"It is better when they drop points, but if we make that analysis it is better to think about ourselves. It would be a mistake to think about them. We have always found a way to win games. We draw the last three, but we are not questioning the process.
"But we will find a way. When we draw a game it is fair, lose it is fair because we have to do better. It is better to be six than eight points but we have to win games to be contenders. Everything is open. What I said in the past, it is a process to grow as a team. Many players have never played a final. I am so optimistic and happy that there are many things we are doing really well."
