“It’s fantastic,” he said.

“Two years ago we played the quarter-final of the Conference League and last year we played a Champions League quarter-final and this year we’re going to play a quarter-final of the Europa League.

“We’re motivated and excited for this competition and for the next month. Today the support was really fantastic and the supporters were really ‘wow’, creating a great atmosphere.

“Thank you for the mosaic they did. We need them. Today they showed us they are here, trying to get again our fortress together, trying to connect with the players and their energy.

“We played a serious match, disciplined tactically and progressively imposing and dominating, getting the good result like we did.”

Emery also stated: “Respecting the opponent, respecting the competition, respecting as well our game plan.

“We had the advantage, but to keep it was our objective through the same mentality we are trying to build.

“Disciplined, serious, organised, and then playing with our skills and trying to exploit and get our momentum like we did.

“We respected our opponent, they had a very good structure tactically and individually as well they have good players.

“We needed to respect them and then impose like we did.”
