Barcelona are famously explosive in the final third, and that will only improve once Raphinha has returned to full fitness over the next few weeks. However, there is no denying their defence has been inconsistent and leaky.
Henry rips into Barcelona
The La Liga giants have conceded 13 times in their 11 league matches, while they conceded three against Club Brugge in the Champions League on Wednesday night in what was a shockingly bad defensive performance.
Now, speaking on CBS Sports, Henry has stated that his former side will never win the Champions League if they continue to fail at the back.
“The co-ordination (in defence) is so bad. You can’t win the Champions League like this, it’s very difficult.
“It’s this game (against Club Brugge), it’s against Paris Saint-Germain, last year it was against Benfica, then it was the Clasico, then it was Inter.
“As we all know, I played for Arsenal, I played for Juve, I won a lot of stuff at Barcelona, for me to say that… it pains me to say that because I don’t want to talk about my old club like that.
“But you have to call a spade a spade. You can’t carry on defending like this. Every time hoping to score three or four, to be the team, not now, not in the modern era of football, you can’t defend like that.”
Barcelona won't change
Speaking after the draw in Belgium, Barcelona head coach, Hansi Flick, was adamant that his side would not alter how they set up at the back.
“Last season, we wouldn’t have conceded that first goal. We don’t have the same confidence when playing the offside trap. We won’t change our way of defending,’ Flick said.
“In midfield, we didn’t press well, and it was difficult to defend against their players with pace. We need to analyse the draw and see where we can improve.”
Barcelona have conceded seven goals in four Champions League matches so far this season and have not kept a clean sheet in any competition since the 3-0 win over Getafe way back in September which only further emboldens Henry’s point.
