Liverpool are to take their summer spending to almost £300m after agreeing to pay £69m plus £10m in add-ons for the Eintracht Frankfurt striker Ekitike this week as transfer experts such as David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano confirmed the deal has been completed.
Ekitike scored 15 goals in 31 starts as Frankfurt finished third in the Bundesliga last season, confirming their return to the Champions League. Now as reported by The Mirror and L'Equipe it has been revealed that Slot used the same technique to snatch up Ekitike, much like Wirtz the month before.
The report claims that Slot specifically referenced his 4-2-3-1 formation and how would he fit in as the focal point of the system and even explained how he sees the young striker being pivotal to the evolution of their style, with a more creative and mobile number nine.
Ekitike is set to become the champions’ seventh signing of an ambitious summer transfer window, after Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Armin Pecsi and Freddie Woodman.
Slot clearly has a plan in his mind for this Liverpool side who cruised to the title in their first season despite minimal incomings for the side who were relentless through the campaign. The addition of Ekitike is another step in the right direction for defending the title and their transfer methods are clearly working which is a great sign for the future of the club.
