Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson has spoken to the press ahead of this week's clash with Galatasaray.

Six months after losing 1-0 in Istanbul in the League Phase, Liverpool suffered defeat via the same scoreline against Galatasaray last week as they now try to fight back in the second leg.

The Reds were knocked out in the last 16 by holders Paris Saint-Germain last season and a second successive elimination at this stage would put serious pressure on manager Arne Slot.

Having progressed from nine European ties out of 13 after losing the first leg by a 1-0 scoreline, Liverpool will be confident heading into the clash at Anfield in front of their home fans.

Liverpool's poor form is frustrating

Robertson spoke in the press conference ahead of the game and first spoke on the lack of consistency in the side which has been a problem all season.

"It's a frustration. We are all frustrated by the fact that we can't find that consistency because last season that's probably what set us apart from everyone else in the league. That's why we ended up winning the league pretty comfortably. It's hard to be able to put your finger on why we have not been able to get that consistency this season.

"It's been a huge frustration for all of us, we've all been trying to put our finger on it and trying to demand it, working towards it, but for whatever reason we've not quite found it yet.

"We can't give up trying. We need to try to fight through it and find that consistency because that is the only way we can try and turn this season around."

Champions League football is what the club demands

The draw against Tottenham on Sunday afternoon means Liverpool sit 5th and outside the Champions League spots. Robertson says fans demand to be in Europe’s elite competition and a win is imperative against Galatasaray.

"Tomorrow night is a massive game for us, we have to do everything we can to try to win that game and if we are in the quarter-finals we will focus on the quarter-finals.

"In terms of Champions League qualification, this club demands it. This club has to be in the Champions League year in and year out. Since I have been here there has only been one year we have failed and that was a difficult year. Hopefully that's not going to be the case this season."

Fans must be given something to cheer about

Lastly, fans booed the team on Sunday as Liverpool dropped points once more. Robertson says the club must give fans something to cheer about this week after such a disappointing performance.

"Sunday they weren't happy and neither were we, but in terms of tomorrow night it doesn't worry me at all because at Anfield, under the lights, with our fans in that stadium - they have been here before and they will be here many, many times in the future as well.

"They always produce special night at Anfield and I don't think tomorrow night will be any different, but we have to give them something to shout about.

"They will be right behind us, but we have to give them something to get behind."
