Mbappe has scored 85 goals in 100 appearances since moving to the Bernabeu but despite his fine form, Madrid suffered their second successive season without lifting the La Liga title or Champions League.
Mbappe has claimed he is Real Madrid's "fourth-choice forward" after coming off the bench to a chorus of boos during the club's 2-0 win over Real Oviedo near the end of the season, after he dropped down the pecking order.
Over 30M people signed a petition calling for Real to get rid of the striker who has now responded to claims that he has no interest in playing for the side past the summer window.
“I’m very proud to play for Real Madrid and I have a strong desire to make my mark on Real Madrid’s history”.
“If you make your mark on the history of the greatest club in the world, you have a special place in the history of football.
“Sometimes, it seems people have amnesia. You can win everything… next day, they forget.
“Apart from Barcelona fans, everyone knows that Real Madrid is the greatest club in the world. I think it’s clear to everyone. It’s the club that embodies greatness.”
Real have endured another year without silverware and as pressure grows on Mbappe, it will be interesting to see what the new club manager decides to do with the Frenchman who clearly wants to stay.
