United are almost guaranteed a top-five finish after beating Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday night, putting them in a fantastic position to secure Champions League football.
The former United and England defender has transformed the club after taking over from Ruben Amorim earlier this season. He is the favourite to take the job heading into next season, but his future remains undecided.
Many names have been linked to the Red Devils since Carrick took over and now, speaking to Hajper, Llorente believes that Xavi could be near the top of the list to step in for the 44-year-old.
“Xavi Hernandez has everything. He was a very intelligent player on the pitch. Even when he lacked physical qualities or speed, he was always one step ahead, gathering more information before the ball arrived. That allowed him to orient his control and play with freedom. He was like a coach on the pitch.
“As a manager I’m convinced he would be good for any team. The key for coaches is to build a great group, stars alone are not enough. We’ve seen many teams with stars that didn’t succeed because they couldn’t create a united group. At Barcelona, he already won the league and cup in his first year.
“It’s true that at huge clubs like Barcelona, Madrid or Manchester United they demand success immediately, and if things go wrong for whatever reason they may not give you time. In England clubs tend to be more patient with coaches, that might suit Xavi better.”
It has been almost two years since Xavi Hernandez was replaced by Hansi Flick as head coach of Barcelona. The former midfielder has struggled to find a permanent job despite being back on the market and could find it even harder to displace Carrick who is going above and beyond with United.
