Virgil van Dijk’s 92nd minute goal got Liverpool’s Champions League campaign off to a perfect start under manager Arne Slot who is now known for his late wins which have devastated the likes of Bournemouth, Burnley, Newcastle and Arsenal.
Writing to X, Carragher jokingly said: "Devil's club” which perfectly sums up the feeling towards a Liverpool side who fight until the very last minute to try and clinch three points.
Carragher also waxed lyrical about Van Dijk and his place among the true greats to ever play for Liverpool. He believes the Dutchman will be remembered alongside some of the most iconic stars to every pull on a Liverpool shirt.
“At Liverpool, a lot of people get called legends because they’ve won the league or Champions League,” Carragher began.
“But if you want to differentiate between the giants of the club like Stevie (Gerrard), Kenny Dalglish, (Graeme) Souness, Alan Hansen, John Barnes, Mo Salah – the top seven or eight players. He is right in the middle of that and he’s not at the bottom of the list.
“He will go down as one of the greatest players to ever play for Liverpool. Not one of the greatest centre-backs, one of the greatest players.”
Liverpool enter the Merseyside derby this weekend in the early kick-off on Saturday, another late goal could be coming for The Reds as they aim to maintain their perfect start.
