Manchester United legend Patrice Evra says the club's issues would have been solved if they had signed Erling Haaland.

Former United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær managed Haaland at Molde FK and suggested signing him in 2018 for around £4M.

However, the club never went forward with the deal and the now Manchester City made a move to Red Bull Salzburg before he was snapped up by Borussia Dortmund in January 2020.

United have lacked a strong goalscorer for a number of years and this season are out of all cup competitions whilst also being without European football.

Speaking to Stake, Evra stated that the Red Devils’ problems could have been solved by the Norwegian striker if the club had listened to Solskjaer

“Haaland would have been a very important signing for United, because we really needed a striker for years. I think Benjamin Sesko is settling in well now, but a calibre of player like Haaland guarantees you goals.

“If United signed him when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in charge, we probably wouldn't be in this situation. His goals make the difference, they win games.

“Many players should've signed for United, but that's in the past. Haaland is doing great for City, he's a great guy, and I know him personally. I wish him luck.

Haaland will feature against Real Madrid in the Champions League this week whilst the United players earn a rest before they face Aston Villa this weekend as they aim to work their way back into European football.
