Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has opened up on the club's Champions League ambitions.

The Premier League is set to secure five Champions League qualification spots this season, meaning United, who sit 3rd in the table are almost guaranteed a spot in next year’s competition.

After six wins in seven games under interim head coach Michael Carrick, the Red Devils are in incredible form as they seek to climb back into Europe after missing out this season.

Dalot, who has been key to the club’s success, has revealed that the side must not take being in Europe’s elite competition for granted.

“I think seasons like this are good for you to know that when you're playing Europa League and especially Champions League, those are the best years, those are the best seasons

“This year we play, I don't know, maximum 40 games because we came out of the cups even in the early stage, so this is nowhere near what the club should be and the competitions that we should play in.

“So when we are there, when we get the main goal that I really believe that we're going to do next season, if we're playing Champions League, we cannot take for granted.

“We need to put the club back in there.”

Having taken 19 points from a possible 21 under Carrick so far, United have a very chance at securing Champions League football as the club get back on track which would only help him in the race to be the next permanent manager.
