After their win at Anfield earlier this season, Carrick's side will complete the double over Liverpool with a victory this weekend as they continue they charge towards Champions League qualification.
The Red Devils have now been victorious in six of their last seven Premier League fixtures at Old Trafford, leaving them in third position, three points above both Aston Villa.
Carrick over the moon with Mainoo's new contract
Carrick, who is the favourite to be handed a permanent role at United, first spoke on academy graduate Kobbie Mainoo signing a new five-year deal this week.
"I've been hugely impressed with him since I've been here. I've known him for quite some time, in different capacities, so I've certainly been aware of him for a long time.
"He epitomises this football club. He is a young player who has come through the academy, is living and breathing the club, and has come through with real talent.
"The natural thing for him was to sign a new contract, so everyone is over the moon with it, including me because I think he deserves it."
Liverpool is one of Carrick's favourite clashes
This game is always intense and packed full of drama which Carrick admitted he is looking forward to as both sides track down European football ahead of next season.
“Certainly one of my favourite games. It is a standout game. There are big games, big rivalries with other teams but this is right up there. The history of it, emotion of it. It has that edge, competition, irrespective of league positions. Never changed the feeling of the game. What it means to supporters.
Finishing above Liverpool: “It shows the improvements of the group. We come into this game in such a good position. I am fully aware of the league, but it is not what we are focusing on. We are treating it as a one-off game.”
Cunha to return?
Lastly, Carrick touched upon team news as his side deal with a number of injuries heading into the clash with the likes of Matheus Cunha waiting to see if they get the call to start the game.
“We are in good shape really. Matheus (Cunha) has done a little bit of work, so we are hopeful. With Luke (Shaw), we aren't sure if he will be ready but we are hopeful. Matthijs (de Ligt) is still a little bit further, he won't be involved in the game. Other than that, we are in good shape."
