Three weeks ago, the World Cup-winning defender and two-time Champions League winner with Bayern, announced his retirement from football in a move that was a long time coming for the 37-year-old.
Boateng is ready to learn
Boateng had been a free agent after leaving Austrian side LASK but has quickly transitioned into coaching after hanging up his boots as he collects his coaching badges.
He told Bild he has completed his UEFA B license and that he is ready to learn alongside Kompany at Bayern, where he will teach some of the world’s greatest players.
"I successfully completed the training course and the B license exam. I now want to complete a few internships by January.
"I've already spoken with (Kompany). I can do an internship at Bayern, and I'm really looking forward to it. We just need to find the right time."
The former Bayern defender won 25 trophies with the club and would be someone to look up at the Bundesliga side who are aiming to defend their league title under the leadership of Kompany this season.
An internship is possible
Kompany was asked about the ex-defender going into coaching earlier this season and revealed that an internship is more than possible.
”I’ve known Jérôme from Hamburg. I was 20 and he was 18 or 19 when we met. We also played together at Manchester City. "If you saw him back then, no one would have expected him to be this successful.
"Of course, he can become a top coach if he works hard and surrounds himself with good people, you can always become the best. But that takes time.
“Could he join my coaching staff? I don’t discuss that publicly. But an internship for a few weeks, sure, of course, he’s always invited to that as a Bayern legend. We can benefit from his experience as a world-class defender.”
