Goals from Neo Maema and Thabiso Kutumela secured Bafana Bafana’s first win of the tournament, moving them up from the bottom of Group C ahead of the upcoming clash between Uganda and Niger.
The South Africans made their intentions clear in the 10th minute as Kutumela combined with Maema to fire a left-footed shot into the bottom corner for his first goal of the tournament.
In the 37th minute, Moussa Camara restored parity following a low shot into the far corner beyond goalkeeper Samukelo Xulu thanks to Mohamed Bangoura’s assist.
Six minutes before the hour mark, Wayde Jooste’s precise cross from the right found an unmarked Kutumela in the box, who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom right corner.
The win lifts South Africa to four points, putting them in contention just behind Algeria for now.
Guinea, meanwhile, remain on one point and will need a win in their final match, along with favourable results elsewhere, to keep their tournament hopes alive.
