Guillermo Ochoa’s AEL Limassol debut turned disastrous with a 5-0 defeat to Omonia on Monday.

After a failed move to Burgo, the Mexican goalkeeper moved to Cyprus seeking stability and playing time.

Ochoa’ last official appearance dated back to May, when he played for AVS in Portugal’s Primeira Liga - a 3-0 defeat to Moreirense.

With Monday’s heavy defeat, AEL Limassol dropped into the bottom half of the Cypriot top division, with the club now ninth.

40-year-old Ochoa's objective is to feature in a record sixth World Cup but he has to convince Mexico coach Javier Aguirre that he belongs on El Tri’s roster.
