The Clarets had approached the Football Association of Wales with the intention of appointing Bellamy as Scott Parker’s successor, and discussions were held between both parties.
However, the deal is now off, according to the BBC. The breakdown is not believed to be related to compensation owed to the FAW, but rather issues surrounding negotiations for Bellamy’s coaching staff to join him at Turf Moor, which proved to be a major sticking point.
Former Wolves boss Rob Edwards, who recently left Molineux, is now among the leading candidates to take over at Burnley, alongside other potential options.
Bellamy, who was appointed Wales manager in 2024 and is contracted until 2028, previously worked at Burnley as part of Vincent Kompany’s coaching staff and briefly served as caretaker boss.
Despite failing to reach the 2026 World Cup, he remains committed to leading Wales into the next cycle, including Euro 2028.
