England eased into the 2026 FIFA World Cup knockouts as Group L winners thanks to second-half goals from Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane in their 2-0 win over Panama.

Thomas Tuchel rotated his team following the dull 0-0 draw with Ghana and the German coach made five changes including starts in defence for Nico O'Reilly and Jarrel Quansah.

A move to bring in Quansah was based on Reece James' latest injury setback amid rumours the Chelsea star could miss the remainder of the tournament due to a hamstring problem.

James started the World Cup as first-choice at right-back after Tuchel controversially opted against including Real Madrid's Trent Alexander-Arnold in his squad and Tino Livramento pulled out injured before the campaign began.

Tuchel's headache over the position has now deepened after Quansah was forced off injured off 63 minutes in New Jersey and replaced by Djed Spence.

"It's a classic ankle twist for Quansah and he's in pain. He said he had it before and it's a matter of days. He has his leg up high and on ice.

"Naturally (I'm worried about the right-back situation) - as we now have another injury in the position. It will be a tight race for Reece James to play against DR Congo and also for Quansah, but it's our job to find solutions and we will do just that."

Spence is expected to cover the role on July 1 against DR Congo in Atlanta after featuring in all three games so far in the USA. Declan Rice is also set to return in midfield with Bukayo Saka seemingly back ahead of Noni Madueke in Tuchel's thinking.

Marcus Rashford could retain his starting spot ahead of Anthony Gordon against a DR Congo team powered by the in-form Yoane Wissa who scored three goals in the group phase.
