Belgium came from two-goals down to beat Senegal 3-2 in the round of 32, with Youri Tielemans scoring a 125th minute penalty, the latest goal in World Cup history.
Tielemans isn’t Belgium’s primary penalty taker, however, that honour belongs to Lukaku, 33, who remains their main goal threat and scored their first goal of the game.
In statements to RTBF, the Napoli striker admitted that following the final whistle: "I was going to shoot, but I'm still going through difficult moments mentally, and I preferred that Youri take it. It's not me who counts; it's the team that must win."
Lukaku and his side’s incredible win over Senegal now means they will face hosts USA in the round of 16 on Monday (July 6).
