England will face Argentina in the 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-finals on July 15.

The Three Lions needed extra time to get past Norway in the quarterfinals as Jude Bellingham's double secured a 2-1 win over Stale Solbakken's team.

Argentina went to extra time for a third consecutive knockout game to haul out a 3-1 victory over Switzerland on the back of 120 minutes in the legs against Cape Verde and Egypt.

It will be a record-breaking sixth World Cup meeting between the two rivals after England's 1-0 win in 2002 on the back of Argentina successes in 1986 and 1998.

Both sides have been forced to rely on grit alongside the individual brilliance of Bellingham, Harry Kane and Lionel Messi, with Argentina winning all three group matches as England won two and drew one.

Argentina have played more minutes than any team at this World Cup, based on those three extra time periods, with England only going past 90 minutes against Norway in Miami.

However, data experts Opta have calculated effectively nothing between the teams ahead of the semi-final, with England fractional favourites to reach the final at 50.94% and Argentina on 49.06%.

Stretched out to their overall chances of winning the 2026 World Cup, England are currently rated at 22% - behind both France and Spain - with Argentina on 21%.

Despite another draining battle for Argentina, Lionel Scaloni is expected to stick with an unchanged team from the Switzerland win, but Thomas Tuchel faces several selection calls for England ahead of their biggest World Cup game in eight years.
