Canada international Ismael Kone has appreciated his teammates and supporters after undergoing surgery on a broken leg sustained during his side’s 6-0 World Cup win over Qatar.

The 24-year-old suffered the injury following a heavy challenge from Assim Madibo while contesting possession, with both sets of players visibly shaken as he received lengthy on-field treatment.

The Sassuolo player was later stretchered off while acknowledging the crowd. He has now posted a message of gratitude as he begins his recovery process.

"Your love and support has been felt, honestly thank you so much. You can't even imagine how grateful I am to everyone who reached out and that has me in their prayers,” he wrote on Instagram.

"I wanted you to know that I love you guys from the bottom of my heart and our brotherhood is everything to me.

"What you guys did yesterday will stay with me forever. I'll be back very soon and we'll keep making more memories together."

Canada continue their World Cup campaign, with their final Group B fixture scheduled against Switzerland on 24 June.
