“Pisa announces that it has informed Alberto Gilardino of the difficult decision, both personally and professionally, to make a change in the leadership of the first team,” the club’s statement read.
Pisa lost at home to Sassuolo on Saturday, 1-3, in the 23rd round, and now sits second from bottom in Serie A with just 14 points, the same as last-placed Verona.

“We want to thank Alberto and his coaching staff for everything they have given to the club, the team, and the fans over these months,” the statement added.
Gilardino, a World Cup winner with Italy in 2006, took charge of Pisa this season as the team returned to Serie A. He leaves the club four points away from safety, with Lecce currently occupying 17th place.
