Gasperini concedes he's been left frustrated by Roma's work in the transfer window this season.
He said ahead of Roma's clash with Pisa: "I think we should always try to improve teams. Before thinking of letting go of what you have, you have to understand what you're bringing in.
"This is always the key point, we'd all love to have Messi or Ronaldo, but then you have to understand this. The goal is to improve teams over time. I think that at Roma, looking at transfermarket, 30 players have arrived and maybe 4 or 5 are playing right now.
"I'm not going to blame anyone, but maybe we need different targets. At Roma, I've seen some great players and teams; the public recognizes strong players. I'm more inclined to that kind of idea than 30 players. This idea might not be shared."
On solutions, Gasperini also said: "This is a choice the club has to make. You could perhaps go for players with very high contracts, which has happened in the past and perhaps the owners no longer want to pursue.
"Another solution could be to focus on very young players, but I don't know if a club like Roma can accept it because with so many young players on the pitch you lower the team's ambitions.
" Still another solution, the ideal solution, are targets like Malen, Wesley, at those costs, at those salaries."
