Inter opened their season with a resounding 5-0 win last night, as Ange-Yoan Bonny, Marcus Thuram (2), Lautaro Martinez and Alessandro Bastoni struck the goals.
Chivu remarked this morning: "It was important because it was our first match, our debut in the new season. We prepared well despite the unknowns. From a physical but especially mental standpoint, Inter brought out their best side.
"We put in a really good performance. I'm very happy with our aggression and intensity, as well as our verticality. We did well to take advantage of our opponents' moments and it turned out to be a good performance.
"I'm happy for Sucic, who played a strong game on his debut, and happy for Bonny, who scored on his debut, as well as Diouf and Luis Henrique. These are the young players we brought in and are trying to integrate as best we can.
"We're happy for everyone, but it's only the first. The season is still long and the road is complicated. We need to maintain our self-esteem, confidence, and awareness, which will then lead us to have a strong season.
"What did I particularly like? I'm happy we didn't concede; we were good at preventing goals. These are all things that boost confidence and are especially important for defenders. I want an Inter side that can control itself and its quality. Games change, and opponents study you. We need to be good at adapting, but balance must never be lacking."
